1. What Is Royco 11MS?

There are a few different types of greases commonly used on aircraft. Still, the most common are general-purpose greases not used for high-temperature applications (specialty greases). General-purpose greases are widely used for the most common types of lubrication, like lubing the landing gear assembly zerks. 

Royco 11MS is a high-load, general-purpose aircraft grease designed for severe operating conditions. With its smooth, gray-black appearance and inorganic gel thickener, it performs reliably at high temperatures. It contains molybdenum disulfide for added load-carrying capability, corrosion resistance, and oxidation protection.

This grease is widely used across the aviation industry, especially in landing gear assemblies and airframe applications. It’s also suitable for severe-duty industrial environments that require temperature-resistant, high-load lubricants.

Royco 11MS is not necessarily an aviation-specific grease, so it can be used in many different industrial applications. However, aircraft must use an aviation-approved grease. The military specification that applies to Royco 11MS is obsolete (MIL-G-7711A), but it is still widely used on all kinds of aircraft.

3. Key Features of Royco 11MS

ROYCO® 11MS is a high-load, general-purpose aircraft grease for severe-duty applications. It is molybdenum disulfide and synthetic base oil thickened with an inorganic gel. It performs well over a wide temperature range. It has excellent corrosion, oxidation, and water washout resistance and is suitable for landing gear assemblies, bearings, and other heavily loaded components in military and commercial aircraft. 

ROYCO® 11MS meets several military and OEM specifications and is approved for use in transport aircraft by major aerospace manufacturers. Typical properties are worked penetration and dropping point above 600°F. 

It is packaged in multiple sizes and must be handled as a hazardous material under shipping regulations.Greenwood Aerospaces carries it in 14-oz tubes and 35-lb bulk tubs.

4. Common Applications in Aviation

Royco 11MS is a standard, general-purpose grease. It should not be used for high-speed, high-heat applications without getting approval from the manufacturer, such as high-speed bearings and other high-temperature operations. Here are the most common applications for Royco 11MS:
