What is EA9396 Hysol Adhesive?

EA9396 is a 2-part epoxy paste adhesive made by Henkel Aerospace. It is designed for bonding metal and composite parts, with high strength from -67°F to 350°F (-55°C to 177°C).

MMM-A-132B is a federal military specification defining the requirements for heat-resistant adhesives for bonding metal-to-metal structural and external aircraft parts. These adhesives are designed to withstand temperatures from -67°F to 500°F (-55°C to 260°C).

The adhesives are classified by:

  • Type I–IV, based on temperature exposure limits
  • Classes 1–3 (Type I only), based on T-peel and blister performance
  • Forms F and P (film and paste)
  • Cure Groups 1–4, based on cure temperature

Products must be thermosetting adhesives and may include primers, fillers, and solvents. Manufacturers must maintain uniformity, ensure moisture and corrosion resistance, and report storage life and curing requirements.

Adhesives must be easy to apply, have an acceptable pot life, and work under varying degrees of humidity. Detailed surface prep, application, and curing instructions must accompany each shipment. If required, Material Safety Data Sheets must comply with FED-STD-313.

To be approved, adhesives must pass qualification testing and be listed on the Qualified Products List (QPL). Any formulation or process changes require requalification. The specification ensures consistent performance and safety for aerospace bonding applications under extreme conditions.
