Castrol Braycote 3214 is a fully synthetic, lithium-thickened aircraft grease qualified to MIL-PRF-32014 for demanding commercial and military aviation uses. Designed for mechanisms exposed to heat, water, high loads, and high operating speeds, it is commonly suited to applications such as landing-gear assemblies, bearings, and flight-control components. The grease operates from -65°F to 347°F (-54°C to 175°C) and provides water and saltwater washout resistance, corrosion protection, and high load-carrying performance. Its published 260°C dropping point and 1,500 N SRV load results exceed key MIL-PRF-32014 performance baselines, supporting use in high-temperature and high-stress aircraft environments. For maintenance and procurement teams, qualification status and traceability remain essential. Buyers should confirm the specific product is sourced through an approved, traceable supply channel and follow the applicable aircraft maintenance manual or component maintenance manual for lubricant selection and relubrication intervals. Greenwood Aerospace offers Braycote 3214 and other aviation lubricants through GSA Advantage for government and military customers.
Castrol Braycote 3214: MIL-PRF-32014 Grease for High-Temperature Aircraft Applications
Continuing our series on Castrol Braycote greases, we are looking at Braycote 3214, a synthetic grease that works well in landing gear assemblies and with existing components, as well as in new installations.
Braycote 3214 plays nicely with other lithium-thickened greases in challenging conditions and in aircraft applications requiring water resistance, high load-carrying capacity, and a grease fully approved and qualified to the MIL-PRF-32014 standard.
Product Overview: Castrol Braycote 3214 and MIL-PRF Context
Castrol Braycote 3214 is a multi-purpose, high-temperature, full-synthetic aircraft grease for demanding service where heat, humidity, speed, and water exposure can shorten grease life.
In military and commercial sustainment, that matters because MIL-PRF-32014 is the qualification framework for aircraft and missile grease used across a wide operating band, and Braycote 3214 is approved and qualified to that specification.
Within the broader Brayco/Braycote family, Braycote 3214 is a synthetic, lithium-thickened, water-resistant grease for aircraft mechanisms that need both corrosion protection and high-speed capability.
Braycote 3214 uses a medium-viscosity synthetic base oil with a lithium soap thickener.
Its operating range is -65F to 347F (-54C to 175C), matching the MIL-PRF-32014 temperature range for aircraft and missile systems.
The attached excerpts do not provide a complete commercial pack matrix by part number. The military specification defines qualification and procurement by the container type and capacity called out in the contract. In contrast, qualification samples include two one-pound containers, plus base oil and additive samples.
Safety, Handling, and Shelf Life for Castrol Braycote
As with most industrial greases, this one causes skin sensitization, reproductive toxicity, and repeated-exposure target-organ warnings, and recommends gloves, protective clothing, eye protection, and adequate ventilation where needed.
The SDS also notes that high-pressure injection through the skin is a medical emergency, which is especially relevant when grease guns and pressurized dispensing tools are used in line maintenance or component shops.
Castrol lists a maximum recommended shelf life of 7 years from the date of manufacture when stored unopened under ambient conditions, and the SDS recommends storage in the original sealed container in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area away from heat and direct sunlight.
Procurement and Supply Chain Guidance: MIL-PRF-32014 Grease Products
When procuring aviation-use lubricants, buyers must verify that the seller can provide traceability to a QPL for the qualified product.
Maintenance Best Practices for Multi-Purpose High-Temperature Grease
This is largely subjective to the aircraft in question, since all aircraft have different maintenance cycles. Generally speaking, grease is a lubricant that needs to be renewed rather than replaced. Always check component-specific technical data in the aircraft maintenance manual or CMM, since the lubricant manufacturer does not determine this for any aircraft.
