MIL-SPEC MS24694 10-32 Pan Head Screws: Cadmium-Plated Fasteners Available on GSA Advantage
MS24694 10-32 Panhead screws are military specification machine screws. They're engineered for demanding aircraft applications. Whether you're maintaining avionics panels, securing interior structural hardware, or supporting defense procurement, this fastener delivers the dimensional consistency and material traceability that military maintenance demands.
The MS24694 family spans a wide range of lengths, grips, and configurations, with part number increments corresponding to specific grip lengths. This makes it straightforward to source exactly what stack requirements you have. Unlike flathead variants, which are designed to sit flush in countersunk holes, Panhead profiles provide a low-profile raised bearing surface well-suited for clearance-hole installations.

Materials and Finish: Cadmium Plated Steel
MS24694 Machine screws are manufactured from steel and finished with cadmium plating per QQ-P-416. This is the governing military standard for cadmium electro-deposition. Cadmium gives an excellent corrosion protection for aircraft applications, particularly when the fastener contacts similar metals or has been exposed to fuel, hydraulic fluid, or high-humidity and high-salt environments.
The plating acts as a galvanic barrier, corroding preferentially to protect the base steel. Chromate conversion treatments are typically applied over the cadmium to further promote corrosion resistance and extend the service life of this hardware.
There are also high-strength steel variants that use hydrogen-embrittlement-relief baking post-plating. This is an important step to prevent delayed fractures and stressed fasteners.
Drive Type: Cross Recessed (Type I)
MS-24694 size 10-32 machine screws feature a cross-recessed type one drive. These are compatible with the standard Phillips driver bits for a 10-32 screw. A very common #2 Phillips bit is the correct selection. Proper driver seating is important. A worn or improperly sized bit increases the risk of camming out, which can and will damage the recess and compromise installation torque.
Compared to a torque set, internal hex, or Allen drive, which are very common in high-torque aerospace structural fasteners, the cross-recessed drive is better suited for lighter-duty panels and avionics hardware where speed and common tool availability are priorities.

Thread and Size Details (10-32 UNF)
The 10-32 designation identifies a number 10 nominal diameter screw, which is 0.190 inches and 32 threads per inch, Unified Fine (UNF) thread form.
External thread is manufactured to a class 3a fit, which provides tight tolerances and reliable engagement with class 2b or 3b nuts. Fine threads offer a mechanical advantage for vibration-prone environments, particularly important for avionics suites where loosening under cyclical loads is a real problem.
Compared to the Corsair 8-32 thread, the 10-32 provides greater tensile strength and is a preferred choice for installing avionics panels.
Grip Lengths and Length Increments (Including 5/8 and 1/4)
Choosing the right grip length is a matter of regulatory concern for joint integrity. Overall length is measured from the underside of the head to the tip.
Standard increments include ¼”, ⅝”, along with other common fractional lengths, with the appropriate dash number encoding the length and the part number.
The grip must match the total thickness of the joint stack. If the grip is too short, the threads may extend into the shear plane, reducing the structural capacity. If the grip is too long, the joint may not clamp properly. Always verify the stack thickness before ordering to ensure the shear plane lies fully within the smooth shank.
Generally speaking, it's important to remember that at least two full threads must be exposed in a joint with the nut fully tightened.
Compliance and Certifications
The MIS24694 series of machine screw is manufactured to MIL-SPEC requirements, with the cadmium plating per the QQ-P-416, while steel materials are per MIL-S-6050 or other applicable AMS or OEM specifications.
These fasteners are well-suited for all aircraft maintenance and are available through GSA Advantage by Greenwood Aerospace. Certificates of conformance (C of C) and lot traceability documents are generally available upon request. When ordering, please specify the full part number, including the dash suffix for length, and confirm pack quantity. Of course, check our GSA Advantage listings first. If you need anything not listed, contact us, and we can probably access it.
