SEMA Aircraft

The Army operates a large fleet of fixed-wing aircraft. In fact, their fixed-wing fleet is larger than many air forces worldwide. While utility and VIP transportation is the primary mission of the Army fixed-wing fleet, they maintain a special-purpose aircraft called Special Electronic Mission Aircraft, or SEMA. The current fleet of SEMA aircraft are made up of legacy turboprop aircraft, namely the Beechcraft King Air, The DeHavilland DHC-7, and a few others.
The Army is currently seeking replacements for most of its SEMA fleet because they are, as previously stated, legacy aircraft. In the meantime, though, the current fleet is not going anywhere. While they are selecting the successors to the current aircraft, they need a strong supply of parts to maintain a fleet of aircraft that are getting old.
