HADES Aircraft

U.S. Army HADES aircraft operate in complex environments for elite ISR and communications missions. Greenwood Aerospace supports these missions through decades of experienced HADES aircraft sustainment.

The Army has invested heavily in several aerial ISR platforms in recent years, mainly because of the age of its current programs. The Guardrail program[1]  has been in service for about five decades and is getting old. Also, it is limited by using a propellor-driven aircraft (C-12 Huron), which has limited loiter ability and a much lower ceiling than business-class jets.

The replacements for all of the propellor-driven ISR platforms in the Army’s inventory are, not surprisingly, jets. One such case is the High Altitude Detection and Exploitation Systems, or HADES. HADES is the brainchild of L3Harris and Raytheon. While they have yet to settle on a platform vehicle for this project, but there are a few options. One option is the Gulfstream G550/EC-37B. This one makes sense logistically because they already have several C-37s in the fleet. Plus, it is a proven ISR platform; the U.S. Air Force has opted to use the EC-37B for its Compass Call mission, which the EC-130H hosted for decades. Of course, they could opt for the Bombardier line of jets, as the Challenger 650 is slotted for the ARTEMIS mission, and the Global 6000 is currently serving in the USAF as the E-11A BACN. Whichever base model they choose, it will be used for long, orbiting missions, racking up many flight hours. A robust supply chain is imperative for this type of operation.

The best hedge of defense against unplanned delays from the aircraft comes in a readily available supply of parts so that you can get them when you need them. Instead of wasting your time sourcing the parts and jumping through hoops to get it, let Greenwood Aerospace take care of it.
